Tenants move into their new homes in Anglesey, Maes yr Ysgol site
Tenants have recently moved into a new housing development which has been built in Llangefni.
Seen as one of ClwydAlyn’s most innovative developments, a total of 52 new homes are being developed at the Maes yr Ysgol site, and a total of 16 homes are now ready for people to move into.
This project was delivered in partnership with Welsh Government, Anglesey County Council and Bala based contractor Williams Homes, with more than £6.98m invested by Welsh Government.
The development includes a mixture of homes that comprises one, two, three and four bedroom homes, varying from bungalows, apartments, semi-detached and detached homes.
Works began in March 2021 and keys have now been handed over this week to 16 new tenants.
Ruth Parry who is one of the new tenants moving in said:
“Moving to my new home will change my life a lot as it is so nice, modern and trendy. I was living in a 3-story house that has been condemned and was damp and dangerous to live in, with poor heating and electric bills that were costing me £70 to £80 a week.
“I have a disabled son who is 35 and autistic, and living here now and having so much space will really help him. With the solar panels and proper heating system too it will really save us money and we’re really looking forward to living here.”
Head of Technical, Innovation and Climate at ClwydAlyn, Tom Boome said:
“All these homes have been constructed using low carbon technologies where the development has used a structural timber frame solution that combines with modern construction methods to create dwellings that have improved airtightness and thermal performance characteristics.
“This has enabled ClwydAlyn to present homes that will have a considerable reduction in heat loss, with lower energy demands that will contribute to lowering our carbon emissions, with the aim to also generate annual savings on energy bills.
“This scheme will play a significant part in reducing our carbon footprint and also plays a pivotal role in ClwydAlyn’s Environmental and Sustainability vision where our goal is to address climate change challenges in a sustainable and economic way.”
Tony Hughes, Commercial Director of Williams Homes explained:
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with ClwydAlyn to create much needed affordable homes for local people. The construction of the state of the art timber framed homes with wood fibre insulation has played a role in creating employment opportunities, and through the Construction Industry Training Board pilot scheme has supported offenders at HMP Berwyn via a mentoring scheme that sees offenders trained in trades such as bricklaying, plastering, joinery and welding whilst in prison to ensure they are able to move into stable employment on release.”
