Work starts on new development of 23 affordable homes on Anglesey
Construction work is now underway to deliver 100% affordable homes in Pentraeth, Anglesey that will provide a mixture of homes for those who live and work on the island.
The new development, which is led by ClwydAlyn in partnership with Anglesey County Council, will feature 23 homes to rent, of which 13 will be owned and managed by ClwydALyn and the other 10 owned and managed by Anglesey County Council.
The site will compromise of four apartments and 19 houses in an area where a shortfall in affordable homes has been identified.
The scheme will offer energy efficient and carbon friendly homes, with an EPC rating of A and will include a range of sustainable technologies. Built with high performing materials which have been locally sourced, such as the Welsh timber manufactured in Bala, as well as the installation of air source heat pumps instead of traditional heating and hot water systems, reducing heating costs and lowering the carbon emissions.

Williams Homes will be delivering construction works at the site, utilising their extensive expertise in the construction of innovative low carbon, high quality timber frame homes.
Owain Williams of Williams Homes explained:
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with ClwydAlyn and Anglesey County Council to create much needed affordable homes for local people. The construction of the state of the art timber framed homes with wood fibre insulation will create employment opportunities and through the Construction Industry Training Board pilot scheme will support offenders at HMP Berwyn. A mentoring scheme that sees offenders trained in trades such as bricklaying, plastering, joinery and welding whilst in prison to ensure they are able to move into stable employment on release.”

“The Council's Housing Service has a statutory responsibility to assess housing needs and lead on partnership working to provide quality housing locally. Our Housing Strategy 2022 ‐ 2027 will be integral as we work independently, and with key partners, to continue to meet the needs of our residents now and in the future.”
Mr Michael added:

We have seen significant increases in house prices on Anglesey recently and there is an even greater need to support local families to get on the housing ladder. This development will help us do this; benefiting local companies and the economy.”
This scheme is part of ClwydAlyn’s development programme to deliver further 1500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 at an investment of £250m bringing the total number of homes in management to over 7,500.
